Natural Stone Tile Floor Information

One of the most attractive qualities about natural stone is that no two pieces are identical.
The characteristics of the natural stone will fade in time, due to the ingress of dirt and soil.
Stone tile floors which have been installed for two years or more will lose their colour, become engrained with dirt, grease, soil, bacteria etc. The same applies to grout lines which will become darker. Grout lines are porous and so therefore will absorb dirt and liquids.
We can deep clean, rejuvenate, restore your natural stone tile floors and grout lines to their original condition, and then provide on-going maintenance advice to keep your floors in tip-top condition.

Natural stone is formed over millions of years by nature. It can be a great focal point for any living space. That’s why we at Rejuvenate Stone Tile Floor Cleaning will restore your floors to their original condition.
We will also protect your floors with a quality stone tile grout sealer, protecting stone tiles and grout lines from becoming stained and prevent soiling.

Popular Natural Stone Floor Types:

Limestone
Limestone is a sedimentary rock and is formed from materials like coral, shells and fossils. When limestone floors are dirty and soiled, these definitions can be lost and hidden by the dirt.

Travertine
Travertine is a stone that can have many tiny holes. These are natural by the way Travertine was formed, but these holes can be problematic due to dirt and soiling ingress in the holes. Travertine can be deep cleaned, correcting this issue, and then the holes can be filled with a stone resin. Avoid grinding Travertine floors as this may produce more holes or bigger existing holes, due to its honeycomb structure.

Slate
Slate is formed from natural materials like quartz and calcite in extreme heat. Slate flooring needs to be kept clean and sealed. Slate can become greasy and soiled if left neglected. Slate can also scratch easily. Slate flooring also looks enhanced like all stone floors when deep cleaned and sealed correctly.
Topical sealers can produce a nice shine on Slate floors.

Marble
Marble is a stone formed naturally in many colours. Marble looks excellent polished or honed (matt). Like all natural stone keep clean and sealed, keeping it enhanced and protected from staining.
AVOID many household detergents and cleaners which contain acids, vinegar and lemon juice.
These can etch and damage the stones. pH neutral cleaner should be used to maintain these stone floors for maintenance.

What You Should Expect From Having Your Stone Tile Floors Cleaned And Restored

In most cases deep cleaning your stone tile floors and grout lines will return them to their original just laid condition. Not only is it important to thoroughly clean the stone tiles but pay great attention to the grout lines. Once the stone tile floors and grout lines are clean and dry then they
should be sealed with a high quality sealer to protect against staining.
Unfortunately, clients wait far too long before having their stone tile floors deep cleaned . This results in the stone tiles and grout lines becoming much darker, making their old floor look unsavoury due to dirt and grease. A general clean will not be sufficient enough to correct the condition of the floor.
This would need a restorative clean, and advice will be given to maintain the floor in the future.

We can rejuvenate your floor to its original condition.

GRINDING NATURAL STONE FLOORING
Grinding natural stone floors should only be carried out when removing lippage (uneven tiles), scratches, acidic damage, and too much floor sealer. It is not always necessary to grind stone floors for the sake of cleaning them. The reason being, grinding the stone can make the stone become
more porous and in the case of Travertine, which has lots of pits and holes, can become bigger and more prominent due to its honeycomb structure.

RESTORING GROUT LINES
Q: Why do the grout lines on my floor get so dirty?
A: Grout sits below the surface of the tiles; dirt, soil and grease find the lowest points thus making the grout lines appear dirtier and darker. Some grout lines are very narrow and the dirt is very difficult to remove.
We can restore your grout lines to their original condition, and seal them to protect them against staining.
